We are 20 years old.The main negative thing I see about these, and I think this is what Trane was talking about, is that it looks like there would be a lot of turbulence and consequently a large equivalent length. Post photos, respond to polls and access other special featuresI've had to put them in 24 inch spots before and was able to turn it as it slid out and no problem. They have a purpose when you don't have the 7 inches on the side of the furnace to mount a standard Air Bear. I don't see the need for 30 inch clearance as the filter is only 25 inches long. It's definitely better than a sloppily installed traditional 90 transition.I'd hesitate using one in a 5 ton system but have had good luck with them in 4 ton situations. From Praha's picture I *think* there would be just barely enough room to tilt the filter in and out in the remaining free space (5" of the front of the box would be blocked) but that's not something I want to bet on.All this being said, I'm still quite impressed with the product for situations where a traditional 90 isn't practical, and am still open to being convinced that it's superior to a traditional 90 at all times. The way my furnace room is built there is not enough clearance where the return air drop is. I don't see where it would matter if it's on a 6 inch base if you don't increase surface area of the filter. One side of the base is almost completly cut out (leaving metal at the bottom to U-clip it to the base)to mount the filter and all of the furnace opening down to the frame is cut out. With the 3 inch base, all I'm doing is allowing to pull full surface area of a 20x25 filter. How do you know that the 3" base will allow enough air flow thru the bottom?seems it would be different depending on the furnace and A/c size, etc.,to work well.
